Do I Qualify for a GLP-1?

Check your details against the FDA-approved label criteria for weight-management GLP-1 medications (Wegovy, Zepbound). Nothing you enter is sent anywhere — this runs entirely in your browser. This is educational, not medical advice, and meeting the criteria is not the same as being prescribed or covered.

Do you have any of these weight-related conditions?

Only matters if your BMI is 27–29.9. Check any a clinician has told you that you have.

How eligibility actually works

The FDA-approved weight-management GLP-1s (Wegovy, Zepbound) are indicated for adults who meet one of two thresholds:

Two honest caveats: (1) meeting the label criteria is a starting point, not a guarantee — a licensed clinician decides if the medication fits you, and insurance coverage is a separate question with its own rules. (2) The diabetes-indicated GLP-1s (Ozempic, Mounjaro) use different criteria. Once you know roughly where you stand, the next questions are usually how to get evaluated and what it costs.

Frequently asked

What are the FDA criteria to qualify for a GLP-1 for weight loss?

For chronic weight management, the FDA-approved GLP-1s (Wegovy, Zepbound) are indicated for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher (obesity), or a BMI of 27 or higher (overweight) plus at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnea. Diabetes-indicated GLP-1s (Ozempic, Mounjaro) use different criteria.

Does meeting the criteria mean I will get a prescription?

No. The label criteria are a starting point, not a guarantee. A licensed clinician decides whether the medication is appropriate for you based on your full history, and insurance coverage is a separate question with its own rules. Some people who meet the criteria are still declined by their plan; others pay out of pocket.

Is this tool medical advice?

No. It is an educational check against published criteria. It does not diagnose, prescribe, or replace a conversation with a licensed clinician. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere — the calculation happens entirely in your browser.

What if my BMI is under 27?

A BMI under 27 is below the standard threshold the weight-management labels use, so most people below it will not meet the label criteria for these medications. That does not rule out a medical conversation about your health, but it is below the usual cutoff.

Educational only — not medical advice. This tool checks your input against published FDA label criteria for adults; it does not diagnose, prescribe, or account for your full medical history, contraindications, pregnancy, or eligibility for the diabetes-indicated products. Pediatric criteria differ. Only a licensed clinician can determine whether a GLP-1 is appropriate for you, and insurance coverage is separate. If you're struggling with your relationship to food or weight, please talk to a professional.
